The natural fine paper Crush has a very special peculiarity: 15 % of the raw material is replaced by by-products from food production that would otherwise end up in landfill. For the paper, in the spirit of the upcycling concept, the residual materials of olives, kiwis, corn, almonds, cocoa beans, citrus fruits and grapes are used and shape the look of the Italian natural paper. Sustainability is an opportunity to create products that add value to the environment and society. The demand for eco-friendly paper, as in the case of Crush paper, can lead to completely new approaches and the use of raw materials from other contexts that are no longer needed. After 18 months of development and numerous tests, the result is a fine paper based on the use of by-products from the food industry. The residues from processed almonds, cocoa beans, grapes, olives, kiwis, citrus fruits and corn replace 15 % of the pulp in paper production. This material would otherwise be used as filler for animal feed or even end up in landfill. The production of Crush reduces the burden on commercial forests and makes good use of waste materials.

For example, the Grape colourway consists of 15 % dried and ground grape skins, which replace fresh wood fibres. Together with 40 % recycled paper, this reduces the proportion of fresh fibres from sustainably managed forests with FSC® certification to 45 %. The result is a wonderful natural paper with a strong character in the truest sense of the word.

Corn, olives and other crops are raw materials, but they also inspire the natural colour nuances of the paper. Variants whose production does not yield sufficient dye from the by-product are additionally tinted with natural plant-based colours.
Thanks to its own hydroelectric power plants, Favini has succeeded in reducing CO² emissions in production by 20 %. To offset its carbon footprint, Favini is involved in a wind farm.
